Sometimes the simplest things can have the most profound effect. Like touch. Touch can reduce cortisol levels and increase dopamine and serotonin levels. This can reduce stress, anxiety, depression and help reduce pain.

This is true for people but is also true for dogs or any animal. Especially our older dogs. As our dogs age they slow down much like their human counterparts. It may just be a part of the aging process or it could be arthritis, injury or illness. Not being as active or pain may also trigger depression or anxiety in your dog.
In massage there is a technique called Laying of Hands. At first you may think that it's so simple that it can't possible have any effect. Let me assure you that it does. It is especially beneficial for pets that fragile or sore due to age or illness or injury and cannot tolerate a lot of touch. I use laying of hands a lot with my clients with arthritic conditions and they love it. It's the power of touch that makes dog massage so powerful.
So what is laying of hands. Simply put you just rest your hand on the bit that is sore. Nothing is sore, then just lay your hand somewhere they are comfortable having it on their body. Set an intention of sending good vibes or love. Just let it rest, no need to rub or move around. You will find that the more still you are the more they will enjoy it.
The effect is amazing. The heat of your hand is warming and the comfort of touch is healing.
Try it and let me know what you think.
